National Woodlands operates transparently and lawfully. This page sets out the legal structure of the organisation, how we are governed, and your rights as a user of this website.
A Community Interest Company (CIC) is a legal structure created for organisations that use business principles to deliver social or community benefit. CICs are regulated by the CIC Regulator and are subject to a legally binding asset lock — which means assets and surplus can only be used for community benefit, not distributed for private gain.
National Woodlands is not a registered charity. We are a CIC — which gives us more operational flexibility than a charity while maintaining the same legal commitment to public benefit.
National Woodlands is governed by its directors, who are responsible for the strategic direction of the organisation and for ensuring we operate in accordance with our CIC constitution, Companies Act obligations and the principles of good governance.
Details of our current directors are available at Companies House: Company No. 17283831.
Our CIC constitution includes an asset lock, which means that:
As a CIC, we are required to submit an annual Community Interest Report alongside our accounts. This report demonstrates the community benefit our activities have delivered and how we have engaged with relevant communities.
Our Community Interest Reports are filed with the CIC Regulator and are publicly available at Companies House.
Our annual accounts and confirmation statements are filed with Companies House and are publicly available. Company number: 17283831.
